General Skilled Migration

Skilled Visas include visa for skilled applicants who are sponsored by family members or State or Territory Governments. The Skilled Visa program, also known as the General Skilled Migration Scheme, is for people who are not sponsored by an employer and who have skills in particular occupations required in Australia.

To qualify for General Skilled Migration, you must meet a pre-determined point score. Points are earned through your age, your work experience, your trade or occupation and your English language ability. Other points may be added to your score if you have close relatives living in Australia or you have studied or worked in Australia previously. You also get points if you are sponsored by a state that needs people with your skills.

The Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) is a permanent residence visa for points-tested skilled workers who want to work and live in Australia. To be able to apply for this visa you need to submit an expression of interest and then be invited through SkillSelect to apply. You can be in or outside Australia at the time you apply as well as when the visa is granted.
The Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) is a permanent residence visa for points-test skilled workers who want to work and live in Australia after being nominated by an Australian state or territory government agency. To be able to apply for this visa you need to submit an expression of interest and then be invited through SkillSelect to apply. You can be in or outside Australia at the time you apply as well as when the visa is granted.
This visa provides the holder with Australian temporary residency with conditions. The holder can live, work and study in a specified region of Australia. The holder can travel freely to and from Australia while the visa is valid, and may have the opportunity to apply for permanent residency through the Skilled-Regional (Residence) visa. To qualify for a Subclass 489 visa, you need to be sponsored by either an eligible relative living in a designated area or a State or Territory Government. Each state or territory has its own individual list, depending on the skill shortages in that area.
The Skilled Regional visa 887 is the second stage visa giving permanent residence to holders of Skilled Regional Provisional visas such as 489/495/496/475/487 visa. The main criteria for this visa are you have been in Australia holding a Skilled Regional Provisional visa for the last 2 years and worked full time for at least 12 months in Australia in any occupation.
International students who have recently graduated from an Australian educational institution can apply for this visa once, as a primary applicant. It lets you live, study and work in Australia temporarily up to 4 years to achieve the goal of becoming eligible to apply for permanent visa.

Recent Engineering Graduate Visa

This Visa allows recent engineering graduates of eligible universities to gain up to 18 months of skilled work experience in Australia. It is a temporary visa with which you can travel, work & study. Your family can also apply to join you in Australia after the visa is granted.

You may be inside or outside Australia when you apply for this visa however you must be outside of Australia when the visa is decided, unless you are a New Zealand citizen who holds a Special Category visa (subclass 444). A New Zealand citizen who holds a Special Category visa (subclass 444) can be in or outside Australia when the visa is decided.

You can include the following people in your visa application at the time of lodgement:

  • Your partner
  • Your or your partner’s dependent children

  • Below 31 years of age
  • Eligible engineering qualification from a recognised institution
  • Have not previously held certain visa subclasses
  • Can demonstrate English language ability
In the two years before you apply, you must have completed one of the following qualifications in engineering:
  • Bachelors Degree
  • Masters Degree
  • Doctoral Degree
  • Postgraduate Diploma
Your qualification must contain a major sequence of study or specialisation in engineering, such as:
  • Civil Engineering
  • Structural Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Electrical and Electronics Engineering
  • Mechanical, Production and Plant Engineering
  • Mining and Material Engineering

Employer Sponsored Visa

Australia has a variety of visa options available to skilled individuals who have been offered a position by an Australian employer. These visas are designed to facilitate a reduction in staff shortages in Australian businesses affected by industry-wide skill shortages. There are temporary and permanent visa options available, with differing criteria and conditions.

Employer sponsored visa programme allows Australian businesses to find required help in a relatively short time. There are both temporary visa options and permanent visa options. TSS visa, enables employers to address labour shortages by bringing in genuinely skilled workers where they cannot source an appropriately skilled Australian. It facilitates targeted use of overseas workers to address temporary skill shortages, TSS visa holders can work in Australia in their nominated occupation for their approved sponsor for up to 4 years depending on the stream.
ENS visa is a permanent residency option for skilled workers. ENS visa is available both for applicants who are already living and working in Australia as temporary residents and for those living outside Australia. To be eligible for this visa, a skilled individual must be nominated by an Australian employer through Direct Entry Stream or Temporary Residence Transition Stream.
The RSMS visa allows employers in regional or low population growth areas of Australia to fill skilled positions that they are unable to fill from the local labour market. RSMS visa is available both for applicants who are already living and working in regional Australia as temporary residents and for those living outside Australia. To be eligible for this visa, a skilled individual must be nominated by a regional Australian employer through Direct Entry Stream or Temporary Residence Transition Stream.
This visa allows applicants who have recent qualifications and/or experience to take part in workplace based training to enhance their skills in their current occupation, area of tertiary study, field of expertise for up to 2 years. Candidates must have proof of sufficient functional English to undertake the training program. 407 visa is available for those living in or outside Australia.

Other Visa

Australia offers a wide range of opportunities for prospective migrants and temporary entrants to visit, invest and join family members who are already in Australia. Our immigration advisers can make it happen for you.

The Partner visas allow the partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia. The marriage must be valid under the laws of Australia. You must have been in a de facto relationship for at least 12 months. Children can also be included along with the partner if they are below 16 years of age.

The temporary Partner visa is granted initially and lets you remain in Australia until a decision is made about your permanent Partner visa. Upon the grant of the permanent visa, you can reside in Australia permanently.

The Parent Visa lets parents of a settled Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia permanently.

The applicant of the above visa should at least have half of his / her children living in Australia or more than half of the children must live in Australia than in any other country.

The Child Visas allow a child who is outside Australia to come to Australia to live with the parents as well as it allows a child who is in Australia to remain in Australia. ​ The child must be single & qualified under the special age requirements to apply for any of these permanent visa

Visitor visa (subclass 600) lets you visit Australia. You might be able to get this visa if you are traveling to Australia; as a visitor, for business, leisure or to visit family etc…

Student Visa allows you to stay in Australia to study full-time in a recognised education institution. ​ Applicants must be at least six years of age and have been accepted to study at an educational institution in Australia. This visa will be granted up to five years.

If you would like to come to Australia for a visit and short-term study, you may be eligible for a Visitor visa. If you have finished your studies and wish to work in Australia temporarily, you may be eligible for the post-study work visa, the Temporary Graduate visa.

Business Innovation and Investment visa allows you to:

  • Own and manage a business in Australia (the Business Innovation stream)
  • Conduct business and investment activity in Australia (the Investor stream, the Significant Investor stream and the Premium Investor stream)
  • Undertake an entrepreneurial activity in Australia (Entrepreneur stream)
